Lewis Pumps
Founded in 1891, Chas. S. Lewis & Company manufactured its first sulphuric acid valve in 1975, continuing a specialization in sulphuric acid equipment which began in 1914. Today, Lewis has established itself as a leader in the design and manufacture of piping and control valves for sulphuric acid applications. With material selections featuring the proprietary LEWMET alloys to provide maximum corrosion resistance, the mechanical engineering concepts embodied in Lewis valves assure the plant operator of consistent flow control in high temperature sulphuric acid and oleum. PLEASE CONSULT THE LEWIS FACTORY FOR OTHER INORGANIC ACID APPLICATIONS.
Benefits

No matter which type of valve is employed, the Lewis Valve user enjoys significant benefits which are the direct result of Lewis' long specialization in the design and manufacture of equipment for the fertilizer acids industry:

  • SPECIALIZED METALLURGY. Lewis is unique among specialized valve manufacturers in its ability to develop appropriate materials - the LEWMET alloys - which provide our customers with superior material performance in the harsh operating environment of the modern sulphuric acid producing plant.
  • AUTOMATION. Lewis Valves can be furnished with a variety of automatic actuators for either electric motorized operation or pneumatic operation. Actuators are assembled to the valves by Lewis technicians and fully calibrated before shipment.
  • ALL-METAL CONSTRUCTION featuring LEWMET nickel-chrome alloys eliminates failures generally associated with non-metallic lined valves in sulphuric acid service. Such linings are prone to brick chip/tower packing damage, as well as separation from the substrate material.
  • LEWIS BUTTERFLY VALVES are ideally suited for throttling service in extremely hot acid cooler bypass applications. The velocity resistance of LEWMET allows the piping engineer the flexibility to downsize the valve to its most efficient and economic size.
Lewis Valves are also available for other inorganic acid applications, including high temperature heat/energy recovery systems and phosphoric acid services.
