Lewis Pumps Pasteurizer/Bottle Washer Process Pumps
Durable water pumps designed especially for hot-water pasteurization processes found in breweries and other beverage industries.
Lewis Pumps
In 1891 Chas. S. Lewis & Company was a manufacturer's agent for the supply of pumps and valves. With headquarters in St. Louis, MO and a location near the city's many breweries, Lewis became a primary supplier. The batch brewing process of the time began to tax the available pumps; service life was less than desirable. Lewis was approached with a request to build a pump that would withstand the demands of the brewing process. In 1906 Lewis analyzed the process design requirements and constructed our first pump for Anheuser Busch, St. Louis, MO. As with all Lewis products the pump design was heavy duty and very rugged. With the undertaking of this development project, we established ourselves as a manufacturer for severe duty applications. From this early relationship Lewis began design and manufacture of horizontal brewery pumps.

Benefits

In 1953 Lewis developed the GR/KR pump line, which is the design still in use today for our modern pasteurizer/bottle washer pumps. It was at this time that Lewis began our relationship with the leading brewery equipment manufacturers. The GR/KR pumps were supplied to pump water and caustic solutions for pasteurizers and bottle washers. The product line included size 2, 2½, 3 and 4 inch pumps, wherein the size indicates the nominal discharge diameter. The pumps were offered with a standard mechanical seal for water service or a stuffing box for use in caustic service. Today these pumps are supplied with improvements in sealing technology and the addition of several new sizes to meet the requirements of the pasteurization and bottle washing processes.
The product line is available in the close-coupled design or in a frame-mounted configuration; axial flow process pumps are also available. The sizes have been expanded to include 5, 6 and 10-inch discharge diameters and a 14 inch axial flow elbow pump. A size 8GR is currently in the design stage. The pumps are supplied with ANSI flange drilling, however DIN drilling is also available. The pumps are also designed with low maintenance and long operating life in mind. Little attention is required and they are easily serviced with interchangeable, standardized parts. Lewis stocks a number of motors to respond to emergency requirements.

Versatility was also used as criteria for the development of this product line. The pumps include a right-hand or left-hand version, each available in 4 discharge positions. The pumps can be floor or wall mounted in any horizontal or vertical configuration. This coupled with the flexibility in positioning the discharge nozzle accommodates the requirement for mounting in minimal space. The impeller designs offer a wide range of capacities from low flow high head to high flow low head. Lewis pumps are installed in breweries in 23 counties around the world. Many brewery managers have come to rely on Lewis pumps providing many hours of trouble free service. As down time for a 2000-2500 can/min. production line cannot be tolerated. Lewis continues today in the supply of pumps to major breweries and brewery equipment manufacturers.
